Water is deceptively and incomprehensibly powerful. Being that most of the earth is covered in water, and our own bodies are made mostly of water, we almost take water for granted. This Ocean necklace was first inspired in Nantucket, seeing a jumping whale. The drops of splashing water were lit in the sunlight. I knew then that I just had to make the ocean into jewelry, but it's so huge, it covers the earth, how would I capture the beauty and power? It took me several months and I finally captured the feeling in necklaces, earrings and rings.
When I wear my Ocean Jewelry, it also reminds me of the power of water in ways Lau Tsu captured in the "Tao Te Ching"
"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong."
