This is a custom order from Julia for her daughter's wedding jewelry. Julia wanted very specific shapes and stones. Shown here The smaller stones are diamonds and various shades of blue topaz. The larger stone is larimar, which is native to the wedding destination. Larimar, also called "Stefilia's Stone", is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Its coloration varies from white, light-blue, green-blue to deep blue. Julia chose the ocean blue color you see here.
Julia has kindly allowed me to show these. If you would like something similar for yourself it will be custom made to order, so you can choose your own color combination.
Aside from being honored to be able to create the jewelry for such a special day, water has a lot of symbolism for me, and I already have an Ocean Collection and other Sea Life jewelry, art and gifts.
"Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it." (Lao Tzu)
Water is deceptively powerful. It surrounds and inhabits us to the point where most of the time we take it for granted. After all, most of the earth is covered in water, and our own bodies are made mostly of water.
The Ocean Jewelry was first inspired in Nantucket, seeing a jumping whale. The drops of splashing water were lit in the sunlight. I knew then that I wanted to make the ocean into jewelry, but it's so huge, it covers the earth, how would I capture the beauty and power? It took me several months and I finally captured the feeling in necklaces and earrings. After years of enjoying this collection, I am finally working on Ocean Rings, too. Stay tuned!
When I wear my Ocean Jewelry, it also reminds me of the power of water, also captured and most beautifully expressed by Lau Tsu the "Tao Te Ching"
"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield.
As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard.
This is another paradox: what is soft is strong."
In other words: Go with the flow.
